On October the 30th a working meeting of students and teachers included in the STEM1 package of the Green STEM project was held. The results of the field classes held in Istria from October 8 to 10 were presented, and students from the optional geophysics class and from the geological group Under our Feet were also present.
At the beginning, Ph.D. Zoran Pasarić from the Department of Geophysics of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Zagreb held a lecture “Continuous measurements in geophysics” and explained what geophysical series are and how data that takes place on different time scales is collected and processed.
Then the student Ivan Patarčić from the 3rd grade presented the results of measurements with the Kestrel device. Changes in temperature and pressure during the two days of measurement were analyzed and a wind rose was created showing the speed and direction of the wind during the night of October 9.
At the end, professors Vorih and Žgela Putniković presented the results of measuring the concentration of microplastics on samples collected at 4 locations in Poreč.
They compared the results and discussed the possible reasons why the concentrations are different and related them to the wind rose.
We ended the meeting with a short review of the field lessons and memories of three days spent brilliantly!
